Welcome to CASINO ISLAND!

Our hero, Lucky the Dog, is on a quest to become the greatest card player in the world.  But to fulfil his lifelong dream, Lucky needs to be trained in the art of probability.  His journey, leads him to the infamous CASINO ISLAND, where he will be trained by the Seven Masters of Probability.  Each day, one of the Masters will teach Lucky the concepts of probability that he will need to become a true expert. Through his weeklong journey, he will need to learn a variety of concepts.  He will be put through a series of tasks, challenged, quizzed, and tested.   It won’t be easy but you can help.  Come join Lucky as he seeks to become a champion and assist him in his quest.  

There are some important features that you should be aware of as you proceed.

Navigation - at the bottom of each page there are navigation arrows that will take you to the next or previous pages. There are also links to each page on the right hand side of the screen so that you can pick up where you left off

Reflections - the symbol below is the indication that you are to write something in the blog entry space at the bottom of the page. Although specific questions are provided for you to answer, you are encouraged to go beyond these questions and think deeply about the tasks you have completed and what they mean. You and your teacher are the only ones who will read your blog posts

Simulations - you will be asked to run a variety of computer simulations throughout the lessons. These include flipping coins, rolling dice, playing cards, etc.  We highly recommend that you either keep a spreadsheet open or have a notebook available to record the results of each simulation that you run.

Discussions - each lesson requires you to make at least one original posting to the discussion forums. All classroom expectations about appropriate behaviour continue to apply here. In addition to posting your own ideas, you are expected to respond to the ideas of other people as well as reply to people who have responded to you.

Chat - There is a chat feature built into the site on the right hand side. If you have questions during your lessons, you may post them there.

Quizzes - During lessons you may be required to complete a quiz. Many quiz questions are multiple choice and provide you with feedback about your choice.  When answering a question, click on the response you wish to choose, then click submit.  Other questions may require you to input your answer into textboxes, then click submit to record your answers.  Please note, that some questions will require correct responses in order for you to advance through the storyline.  If you answer these questions incorrectly, you will be prompted to try again.
