We have some teenagers staying over at our house right now because of a Drama workshop that is being hosted at my school. They are decent boys, and follow instructions fairly well. They all brought gifts for us for letting them stay at our house which was very polite of them. They also made some observations of my son which I think our friends had not mentioned.
His memory for people's names is phenomenal. He looked at one of the teenagers and walked up to him and said 'Hi PJ!'. We corrected him, "No, no, this is Ahad", and continued along our way. We went to the mall Bang Kapi and had dinner then went shopping. About 5 hours later he said "Hi Ahad!" when we saw the boy, but then he said "PJ". It finally dawned on my wife that he meant PJ from the summer, during July, when we were visiting family on Denman Island in British Columbia. PJ was another 16 year old, who looked very much like Ahad, who played with Thanasi during the summer. I guess he made a lasting impression for Thanasi to mention him now...still remembering someone you met for one 3 day period for a couple of hours 5 months later is still remarkable, especially when its a two year old doing the remembering.
The teenagers were also amazed at Thanasi verbousity. He is a little chatterbox, talking non-stop all the time. He was playing outside today with the water and I overheard him talking as if one of his friends was there. I guess he's entered the imaginary friend stage, which is probably more likely for an only child. In any case Thanasi's language skills are very advanced even if his pronunciation of certain sounds could use some work (he doesn't say l's yet...is that normal?).
Thanasi has also begun to remember what his schedule is. It's a pretty standardized schedule now for the last five months or so. Monday he has his friends over in the morning with their nannies or mummies. Tuesday he goes to Sari center to play in their gigantic ball room and maze. Wednesday he has BAMBI at our local international school up the road. Thursday he stays at home with mommy generally. Friday he goes to his friend Joshua's house and everyone plays every there. Saturday and Sunday, Daddy is at home in the middle of the day and we play together. Yesterday was Sunday here and Thanasi said "Joshua and baby Gregory and Dominique and JJ all playing!" which is all of his friends who are going to be coming over today. Pretty cool.
My son is coming along just fine I think. Happily I just finished a major assignment for my Master's degree and will be able to spend more time with him than in the past week or so. He's been pretty forgiving but I miss playing with him. Boy will I be happy when this degree is done. Only 7 more courses...
